Breakdown on motorway 
Risk: Collision with passing vehicles causing injury / death 
Persons at Risk: All 
Level of Probability: Medium 
Control Measure: Nurse vehicle to slip road if possible OR get vehicle to hard shoulder / inside of motorway Driver and/or group leaders to manage evacuation behind crash barriers and away from vehicle Group leaders to take a head count Use hazard lights and warning triangle Check location and use mobile phone to call for assistance 
Outcome: Low 

Breakdown on non motorway
Risk: Collision with passing vehicles causing injury / death 
Persons at Risk: All 
Level of Probability: Medium 
Control Measure: Nurse vehicle to slip road if possible OR get vehicle to inside of road Move passengers forward in coach and, if appropriate, driver and/or group leaders to manage evacuation away from vehicle Group leaders to take a head count Use hazard lights and warning triangle Check location and use mobile phone to call for assistance

Rest stops

Control Measure: Coach maintained and inspected both to vehicle manufacturer's specifications and current legislation Daily vehicle inspection carried out by driver Defect reporting procedure in place

Being hit by another vehicle when the coach is parked up

Persons at Risk: All

Control Measure: Driver pulls as far off the road as possible. Coach parks in designated parking bays when left unattended Passengers alight to a safe place away from the vehicle

Vehicle door opening onto ‘wrong side’ of the road
Risk: Being hit by vehicle 
Persons at Risk: All 
Level of Probability: Low 
Control Measure: Passengers alight from vehicle in designated drop off areas where possible Driver briefs passengers to take extra care when alighting from and returning to vehicle

Impaired driver performance – fatigue/stress/distraction

Control Measure: Well maintained vehicle floor surface, step nosings etc
